disaster resource will be an interactive site where survivors can share resources and access ready-to-use tools designed to help them through the aftermath of a disaster. it will include a database of previously curated, vetted, and user-tested information and tools, including maps, apps, and videos. disaster resource will also offer survivors support through a hotline, and help them connect with other survivors in a community where they can share advice, receive mutual aid, and watch for signs of danger.
the project is a collaboration with the university libraries and the uw– vancouver, the poage center for science teaching, and the science internationalization office. we will partner with a high school site and hope to implement an improved method of outreach during the next season. projects like this one provide a unique opportunity for students to get deeply immersed in, and put their own unique spin on, the learning process, while helping to promote general science literacy and inspire young scientists.
the consortium seeks to create and maintain a distributed scientific instrument and database at each sampling location to promote collaborations, facilitate data analysis and validation, and allow other researchers to contribute data. software is written by consortium members to work on the various platforms at each sample collection site, allowing for a common, consistent data management system that can work on all platforms at each site.
metasub will leverage a worldwide network of laboratories and partners, and a unique three-year grant to bring metasub to as many schools as possible. a series of high school expeditions will focus on two of the most widespread health concerns in developing countries–malaria and diarrhea–and will begin with pilot programs in the north and northeast of uganda, working toward a nationally representative consortium of schools and institutions. in addition to the individual school projects, a centrally administered model for administering this grant will be developed. this grant supports both planning and implementation, with the consortium participating in planning with a vision toward technology-based dissemination and implementation strategies. this grant will also advance the skills of the early participants.

the museum of modern art and nypl labs have partnered on the new moar beta. moar will launch in july as a prototype version of the ambitious moar beta, a collaborative environment for local and global designers and artists. through collaborative, distributed design, moar aims to enable and empower ordinary people to create and share creative projects.
rml labs san francisco is working to strengthen education and workforce skills in computer science and technology by hiring software developers, web developers, and computer science educators. this unit is creating a panel of technology education experts to advise the labs program.
nypl labs is developing an interactive crowdsourcing platform to build a comprehensive digital archive of creative works from the era of electronic music; including graphic design, photography, illustration, painting, film, typography, ephemera, poster art, posters, fabric design, and sculpture. with an estimated 12,000 works, the project will involve the largest art and cultural organization in the world to digitize its collection. lab members worked with curators and researchers to develop a strategy for the project, including drafting a digitization workflow and identifying appropriate collections to pursue.
