PT KMI Wire and Cable Tbk was established in 1970 as a low voltage cable manufacturer that produces non-metallic cables. The company also provides telephone line products. In January 1996, the company established a subsidiary in the US, which produces industrial and home electric cables. At this time, it began selling electrical wires in Indonesia. It was renamed as Kabel Metal Industries (KMI). It also gradually introduced medium and high-voltage cables into the market, as well as the domestic consumer cable segment.
